Ugu District Municipality today hosted a Legislative Compliance Assessment Feedback Meeting at the Ugu District Disaster Management Centre as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen disaster preparedness, governance, and compliance with the Disaster Management Act (Act No. 57 of 2002).

The engagement formed part of the Ugu District Disaster Management Centre (DMC) Legislative Compliance Assessment conducted by the National Disaster Management Centre (NDMC) and Provincial Disaster Management Centre (PDMC), aimed at assessing compliance with the minimum requirements of the Disaster Management Act and Framework.

The assessment focused on the implementation of the four Key Performance Areas (KPAs) and three Enablers prescribed within the Disaster Management Framework. According to the status quo assessment, the Ugu District Disaster Management Centre achieved an overall score of 10/10, demonstrating full compliance with all legislative requirements and excellent implementation of the disaster management function within the district.

The Municipality remains committed to building resilient communities through strengthened disaster management systems, improved intergovernmental coordination, and proactive disaster preparedness initiatives.
