UGU DISTRICT MUNICIPALITY SETS THE BENCHMARK FOR EXCELLENCE, LEADING KWAZULU-NATAL WITH 100% COMPLETION OF NATIONAL WATER SERVICES ASSESSMENT
Ugu District Municipality has once again distinguished itself as a leader in institutional excellence, accountability and good governance, emerging as the first and only Water Services Authority in KwaZulu-Natal to achieve 100% completion and successful submission of the 2026/2027 Municipal Strategic Self-Assessment (MuSSA).
According to the latest national progress report issued by the Department of Water and Sanitation on 12 October 2026, Ugu District Municipality successfully completed and submitted its assessment on 6 October 2026, placing it ahead of all 13 other Water Services Authorities in the province.
This remarkable achievement reinforces Ugu’s position as a leading institution in water services governance, demonstrating its unwavering commitment to strategic planning, institutional accountability and continuous service delivery improvement.
The MuSSA is a critical national assessment mechanism designed to evaluate institutional capacity, governance, operational performance and the sustainability of water services. Achieving 100% completion reflects the Municipality’s proactive approach to strengthening institutional systems and ensuring that service delivery interventions are informed by sound planning and effective management.
Under the leadership of His Worship the Mayor, Cllr I.S. Mqadi, and Municipal Manager Mr V.O. Mazibuko, Ugu District Municipality continues to demonstrate decisive leadership and institutional commitment towards building a capable, responsive and high-performing municipality.
The Municipality commends its dedicated Water Services Department, management and officials whose collective efforts have secured this significant milestone.
