MUNICIPALITY TAKES A TOUGH STANCE IN DEALING WITH ILLEGAL WATER CONNECTIONS
The municipality has taken a firm stance towards dealing with illegal water connections in the district following the adoption of the Illegal and unauthorised Water Connections Policy adopted during the sitting of the council meeting on 29 April 2021.This policy will effectively aid the municipality in dealing with the widespread domestic and business illegal connections across the district. Some residents and businesses have intentionally continued to illegally connect water displaying the highest level of disregard of the legal implications they could face in this regard.Illegal water connections within the district continue to be a major contributor to water disruptions being experienced in most areas and this is currently costing the municipality millions of rands every year which has an adverse effect on the municipality ability to adequately maintain its infrastructure. The municipality will from today initiate a process of holding public engagement with stakeholders on the provisions and implications of this policy. For continuous updates on water and sanitation services, follow to the municipality’s Facebook page” Ugu District Municipality”.ENDSISSUED BY:UGU DISTRICT MUNICIPALITYFor more information and media queries contact:Senior Manager: Mayoralty and CommunicationsMr France ZamaFrance.Zama@ugu.websitesupport.co.za
