Municipality urges community members to stop illegal connections
The Ugu District Municipality would like to warn residents and businesses against illegal connections and vandalism of essential water infrastructure.Illegal water connections and vandalism on water infrastructure have cost the municipality millions in lost revenue for the past few years and continues to be an ongoing challenge to the municipality. The deliberate damage to our infrastructure and theft continue to hinder adequate services and adversely increase operational and maintenance costs as well as increase the possibilities of non-revenue. These acts being perpetrated by syndicates in our communities have dire consequences as they also contribute immensely to water supply interruption.Communities are urged to report these criminal acts by contacting their local SAPS on 10111, or anonymously to theUgu Anti-Fraud Hotline on 08001111660(Toll Free) or by emailinginformation@whistleblowing.co.za.We appeal to communities with communal standpipes to stop illegal connections, as the existing water infrastructure is meant for communal standpipes not yard connections. The municipality will also be disconnecting all illegal connections. Customers with illegal connections are urged to apply through the water services department for legal connection.Become a member of our facebook page by liking the’Ugu District Municipality’page to receive continuous and factual updates on matters concerning service delivery.ENDSISSUED BY:UGU DISTRICT MUNICIPALITYFor more information and media queries contact:Acting Senior Manager: Mayoralty and CommunicationsMr Mondli NcaneMondli.Ncane@ugu.websitesupport.co.za
