MUNICIPALITY RECEIVES AN IMPROVED AUDIT FINDINGS FROM AUDITOR GENERAL

The Auditor General of South Africa has presented an audit outcome before the sitting of a scheduled municipal council on the 23rd of January 2025.

Auditor General presented a remarkable improved audit opinion for the financial year 2023/24 where the municipality has progressed to an Unqualified Audit opinion. This audit outcome comes at a period where the municipality was tirelessly working towards achieving a clean audit opinion for the year under review. The report also found that the municipal entity, South Coast Tourism and Investment Enterprise also received an unqualified audit opinion.

These improved audit outcomes can be attributed to the resilient character of municipal leadership which despite all the detractors succeeded in implementing stringent measures which were poised to deliver an improved audit outcome. And having noted the Auditor General’s presentation, the leadership of the municipality re-affirmed its commitment to continue in improving the quality of audit outcomes for the next financial year.

In accepting the audit outcome on behalf of council, the mayor Cllr SI Mqadi stated, “the Municipality recognises and support the work of the Chapter 9 institutions such as Auditor-General of South Africa in strengthening our good practices through the execution of the important task of oversight, accountability, and good governance. It is through institutions like AGSA that the municipality can measure and reflect on its efforts of improving the lives of communities it serves”.

And in preparation for the clean audit outcome for the next financial year, a consolidated corrective action plan with time frames has been developed by the municipality which will seek to address and clear few matters on the Auditor-general’s report.
