Power blackouts becoming a threat to constant water supply

Power producer Eskom has today announced the implementation of stage 6 loadshedding which will continue to cripple an already fragile water generation regime of our major water works stations in the district. Our water systems are highly reliant on Eskom power supply to function effectively, and the recent blackouts have increased a risk of constant water disruptions of water in most areas across the district. These power blackouts bring with it the risk associated with obstruction of our water pumping regime to provide pressure to higher-lying areas which also has an impact on filling of reservoirs adequately resulting in restricted supply of water. The Municipality would like to warn residents to make necessary arrangements by ensuring that they store enough water to last them longer during the ongoing load shedding by Eskom. We therefore appeal to our consumers to bear with us during this period while we contend with the impact of the widespread power blackouts.
