MUNICIPALITY TAKES STRINGENT MEASURES FOLLOWING GAMALAKHE SPORTS & LEISURE CABLE THEFT AND VANDALISM

The Municipality has taken drastic measures following the unsavoury incident where Gamalakhe communities were left with no water supply due to vandalism of infrastructure and cable theft, costing the municipality hefty fees to rectify. The municipality views this as an act of sabotage and blatant theft to serve the interest of a few and has since restructured its internal security operations by appointing Mr Mthoko Mkhoma to serve as a new manager responsible for all security operations of key municipal infrastructure. Mr Mkhoma comes with a wealth of experience in this field as he has served in similar positions. The security service provider who had been appointed to manage the site is also being held liable for all costs incurred as a result of this incident. We therefore appeal to our communities to remain vigilant and report any further acts of vandalism to municipal infrastructure that may hinder water supply to our communities. The municipality will not tolerate any acts of vandalism and sabotage towards fulfilling our initiative to uninterrupted water and sanitation services. For continuous updates on water and sanitation related matters, visit and like ourFacebookpage:’Ugu District Municipality’.ENDSISSUED BY:UGU DISTRICT MUNICIPALITYFor more information and media queries contact:Municipal SpokespersonMr France ZamaTel: 039 688 5713Email:France.Zama@ugu.websitesupport.co.za
