UGU DISTRICT MUNICIPALITY RECLAIMS ITS GLORY AT KZN MUNICIPAL EXCELLENCE AWARDS
Ugu District Municipality has reclaimed its place among the top performing
municipalities in the province after securing several prestigious accolades at the recent
municipal awards in KwaZulu-Natal.
The municipality achieved second place for 100% Municipal Infrastructure Grant (MIG)
expenditure, a significant milestone that reflects the municipality’s commitment to
ensuring that infrastructure grant funding is fully utilised to deliver much-needed
services and development to communities. Mayor Cllr Sikhumbuzo Mqadi said, “These
awards are a testament to the hard work and dedication of our teams and the
communities we serve. Ugu District Municipality remains committed to excellence in
service delivery and fostering economic growth that benefits everyone.”
In addition, Ugu also secured second place for Best Implemented Service Delivery and
Budget Implementation Plan (SDBIP), recognising the municipality’s strong governance
systems and its commitment to ensuring that strategic plans translate into tangible
service delivery outcomes.
Further demonstrating its commitment to disaster preparedness and community safety,
the municipality was also awarded second place for the Best Disaster Management
Centre in the province, highlighting the strength and effectiveness of its disaster
management capabilities. Municipal Manager Mr V.O Mazibuko added, “We are proud
that our planning, execution, and governance efforts are being recognised at a
provincial level. These accolades motivate us to continue improving and ensuring
sustainable development across the district.”
Adding to the list of achievements, the municipality’s development agency, the South
Coast Tourism and Investment Enterprise, was recognised as the Most Functional District
Development Agency, earning the number one position in the province. The award
acknowledges the agency’s critical role in promoting tourism, attracting investment, and
driving economic development across the district.
These recognitions reflect the municipality’s ongoing efforts to improve governance,
strengthen service delivery, and create an enabling environment for economic
growth.
Ugu District Municipality has reaffirmed its commitment to building on this
momentum and continuing to work diligently to improve the lives of residents across
the district.
