Amongst numerous plans pronounced by the new District Mayor, Cllr Tolomane Mnyayiza is to ensure the municipality’s visibility to its communities through the revival of the spirit of effective and efficient delivery of its core mandated services of water and sanitation.

The municipality will achieve the set milestone through the continued implementation of the back to basics strategy that has proven successful over the years resurrecting the municipality from a position of financial and service delivery distress to a well-functioning organisation.

Going forward, the newly elected council has vowed to continue to work closely with the community and employees to advance the people’s lives through the provision of quality drinking water and access to decent sanitation.

Ugu District Municipality from the previous term of office has been committed in the unearthing of water sources enabling access to this basic right to previously marginalised communities. Furthermore, the organisation will continue with the implementation of multimillion rand projects for water infrastructure developments and refurbishments to eradicate all water and sanitation deficiencies throughout the district.

The improvement of communication also forms part of the Mayor’s improvement list. In an effort to vastly improve communication and the turnaround time in attending service delivery matters, we have commenced with the strengthening of communication channels with external stakeholders to ensure a more active citizenry where all stakeholders; customers, the leadership and administration personnel work collaboratively to improve the district.

To date, we have improved the manner in which we handle customer care interface through the upgrading of the call centre technology, the increase of telephone lines, implementation of service delivery standards monitoring tool and the vigorous utilisation of customer bulk SMS and social networks and local online media websites.

From this year till the end of term in 2021, this leadership will continue to advance the people’s power and ensure improved service delivery to the district’s residents and simultaneously ensure the lingering triple challenge of poverty, unemployment and inequality is conquered.

We encourage our communities to partner with us to ensure the desired outcome of a better district for all is achieved.

Ugu District Municipality promotes working together to create an environment that is friendly, responsive, accountable, effective and efficient for our communities.

‘Ugu District is Better Today than it was Yesterday.’
